Thousands of protesters gathered late Saturday in Jerusalem demanding Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s resignation.
Media reports say some 20,000 took part in the demonstration, while organisers, citing bracelets they hand out to all participants, said attendance was at 37,000.
“THIS IS NOT POLITICS, THIS IS CRIME”
Carrying banners and flags of Israel and Palestine, they called for Netanyahu to resign citing his corruption and fraud. “Enough with Division!” and “This is not politics, this is crime,” read some of the placards.
Smaller protests also took part in other parts in Israel, including overpasses and outside Netanyahu’s private house in the upscale town of Caesaria.
Demonstrations against Netanyahu have become a weekly event for about three months.
Results of a July 13 opinion poll conducted by Israeli broadcaster Channel 13 showed 75% of Israelis were “dissatisfied” with the performance of the Netanyahu government during the coronavirus crisis.
Netanyahu, 70, is the first Israeli prime minister to face trial while in office, and he denies accusations of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust.
