Turkey on Friday launched a new terror operation in the country’s east, the Interior Ministry announced.
According to a statement, as many as 1,060 personnel and 72 operational teams from the Gendarmerie General Command, Gendarmerie Special Operations, police and rangers are part of the Operation Eren Winter-6 Mercan Mountains Martyr Gendarmerie Specialist Sergeant Burak Tortumlu.
This year, Turkey launched Operation Eren, named after Eren Bülbül, a 15-year-old martyred by the terrorist PKK on Aug. 11, 2017.
OPERATION AIMS TO ROOT OUT TERRORISTS
The latest action aims to eliminate the PKK terror group, and neutralize the terrorists trying to take shelter in the region, the ministry added.
In its more than 35-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US and EU – has been responsible for the deaths of at least 40,000 people, including women, children and infants.
