Earthquake victim pulled alive from wreckage after 9 hours

Twenty-five people were killed and at least 804 injured when a magnitude-6.6 earthquake jolted Izmir on the Turkish Aegean on Friday, the Disaster Management Agency Authority (AFAD) said early Saturday. At least 743 were injured in Izmir, and in neighboring provinces, five in Manisa, two in Balikesir and 54 in Aydin.

15-year-old Gunay Ozisik, who was under the rubbles for 9 hours, was rescued by emergency teams after a magnitude 6.6 quake shook Turkey’s Aegean Sea coast.

Gunay’s father supported his son by speaking with him during his rescue efforts.

The rescue teams calmed Gunay’s mother, who did not believe that her son was taken out of the wreckage.
