Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan received Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov late Monday.
Bayramov is in Ankara for various official meetings. Previously, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met his counterpart in the capital Ankara to discuss bilateral relations as well as regional issues including peace talks with Armenia launched following the 44-day Nagorno Karabakh war.
The meeting lasted about one hour between Erdoğan and Bayramov took place in the presidential complex and was closed to the press.
Fidan and chief advisor to the president Akif Çağatay Kılıç also attended the meeting where various topics such as trade, energy, and transportation were on the agenda, according to the Presidential Communications Directorate.
President Erdoğan underscored the importance of efforts to increase the trade volume between Türkiye and Azerbaijan to $15 billion.
He also emphasized cooperation in the field of energy and transportation and said such collaboration is for the benefit of the two countries.
Pointing to the significance of the Trans-Caspian and Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, Erdoğan said they need to use these roads more efficiently.
The normalization process of Azerbaijan-Armenia relations was also discussed at the meeting.
The Turkish President said the immediate opening of the Zangezur Corridor and the implementation of the comprehensive peace agreement as soon as possible are important for the process.
