Türkiye's finance minister Mehmet Şimşek engages with Japanese entrepreneurs in Ankara to explore investment opportunities within the country.

The Turkish treasury and finance minister is stepping up his engagements with foreign investors following his appointment as the economy’s new leader by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Mehmet Şimşek held discussions with Takahiko Katsumata, the Japanese Ambassador to Ankara, as well as executives from several Japanese companies.

Şimşek described the meeting as highly productive, noting that he met prominent executives from Japanese companies that have investments in Türkiye. He also mentioned that he received their insights on the investment environment in the country.

He announced his intention to travel to Japan in the coming months to engage in broader discussions with Japanese investors.

Türkiye’s economy czar stated on his X account, previously known as Twitter, “We stand by all stakeholders who invest in our country, provide employment and create added value.”

Japan’s Embassy in Ankara shared a photo regarding the meeting.

The statement from the embassy said, “Ambassador Katsumata invited Şimşek and representatives of various Japanese companies to his official residence.”

The meeting facilitated a highly productive exchange of ideas focused on boosting investments in Türkiye, it added.
