The International Monetary Fund (IMF) said it did not receive any request for financial support from Türkiye.

“The IMF has not received any indication from Turkish authorities that they intend to seek financial assistance from the Fund,” the Washington-based body stated.

According to the statement, an IMF technical team is scheduled to conduct a routine visit to Türkiye at the end of September.

There will be discussions with Turkish officials as part of the preparations for the Article 4 consultation during the visit, it said.

What IMF’s Article 4 says

Under Article 4, the IMF engages in bilateral discussions with its member countries, typically on an annual basis. During these discussions, a team of IMF staff visits the country in question to gather data on economic and financial matters.

They also conduct dialogues with local officials to assess the country’s economic progress and policies.

The IMF’s statement comes after claims suggesting that the Turkish treasury ministry had requested assistance from the Fund.

However, ministry officials emphasized that reports concerning the IMF delegation’s visit initiated at Türkiye’s request are not accurate.
