A senior Turkish official on Monday urged his country’s institutions to reassess their relations with the European border control body over its support for Greece’s alleged violations of international law.
“THIS INSTITUTION LOST ITS INTERNATIONAL CREDIBILITY”
Deputy Interior Minister Ismail Catakli took to Twitter to accuse the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, also known as Frontex, of not only remaining silent as Greece routinely pushes migrants back to Turkish waters as they attempt to cross to Europe, but also of actively supporting Greece’s “violations of international law and inhumane practices.”
“Frontex not only remains silent, but also actively supports Greece’s violations of international law and inhumane practices. Our institutions are encouraged to reassess their relations with this institution, which lost its international credibility,” Catakli added.
He also included video footage showing a Greek Coast Guard boat pushing back migrants in a rubber dinghy to Turkish territorial waters as Frontex and NATO ships looked on.
